Australian Scholarships is an Australian Government initiative that will double scholarship opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region. Australian Scholarships will bring under the one umbrella existing scholarship programmes managed by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) and introduce a new AusAID managed programme – Australian Leadership Awards.

A brief overview of each of the component programmes of Australian Scholarships follows:

  • Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) is managed by AusAID. It is an existing programme enabling people from eligible countries to gain higher level knowledge and skills to promote development in their home country.

  • Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) is managed by AusAID. It is a new regional award for the Asia Pacific region that is focused on developing future leaders.

  • Endeavour Programme is managed by DEST. It is an existing programme, which has been greatly expanded to develop mutual understanding through study, research and professional development to create international education experiences.
