The Ph.D. Research project “Development of decision support systems for the management of marine ecosystems†aims at developing a system to aid European policy makers in making future marine policies in the European waters, with special emphasis on the North Sea. The project is part of the MARBEF research programme, financed by the European Union, and focusses on the design of efficient policies to protect European marine biodiversity. It contains environmental cost-benefit analysis of policy alternatives combined with marine-economic model studies to analyse the effects of these policies on marine biodiversity and economic development of the region. Results should be reported in scientific journal articles and result in a Ph.D. dissertation.
The research will be carried out at the Environmental Economics and Natural Resources Group of Wageningen University, in close cooperation with ICIS at the University of Maastrict, RIKZ and Plymouth Marine Laboraty in Great Brittain.
What we demand You have a university degree in Environmental Economics, in Economics with special interest in environmental and marine related problems, or in Environmental Sciences with proven qualities in economics. You have strong analytic skills and are interested in economic modelling studies for policy preparation. You are fluent in English and have the drive to perform innovative academic research. You are capable of working independently and have strong communication skills.
What we offer An appointment on the basis of a full time contract for a period of one year, which will be extended with three years if proven succesful. Salaries are maximally € 1877,– in the first year, increasing to € 2407,– per month in the fourth year, based on a full time contract. Starting date is November 1, 2006.
