The value of the UC Doctoral and Masters Scholarships, and of various other awards specifically linked to their value, will increase from 1 January 2007 for both new and existing scholars.
The major offerings are now as follows (all also include domestic tuition fees):
- Brownlie Scholarship, $26,000 per EFTS (to the top UC Doctoral Scholarship applicant).
- Roper Scholarship in Science, $25,500 per EFTS (to the top UC Doctoral Scholarship applicant from Science).
- Canterbury Scholarships, $25,000 per EFTS (to the next top 8 ranked UC Doctoral Scholarship applicants who are NZ citizens/permanent residents).
- International Doctoral Scholarships, $25,000 plus return airfares. A new, prestigious scholarship for international students, with an application process separate from the UC Doctoral Scholarships.
(International students can apply for both the University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarship and the University of Canterbury International Doctoral Scholarship. Only one set of the supporting documentation is required if applications are made for both scholarships)
- UC Doctoral Scholarships, $20,000 per EFTS, open to all.
- UC Masters Scholarships, $10,000 per EFTS, open to all.
Scholarships linked to these values include the Targeted Doctoral Scholarships, Students with Disabilities Scholarships, Ngata Doctoral Scholarship, Commonwealth Scholarships from Developed Countries, Guardian Trust Masters Scholarship, F A Hayek Scholarship, Keith Laugesen Scholarship, New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women Doctoral and Masters Scholarships, and Orion Masters Energy Scholarship.
Separate scholarship progress reports will no longer be required for holders of doctoral scholarships. The continuation of funding will be contingent on satisfactory progress monitored through the PhD progress reports.
The required research component for the new Masters Scholarship has increased: “The scholarships are tenable only for the period in which the student is engaged solely on a single thesis, dissertation or research project or in creative work or performance or in which such thesis, dissertation, research project, creative work or performance comprises at least 0.75 EFTS in total.”
