The ANU Centre for European Studies is pleased to announce a Call for Applications under this year’s Visiting Fellowship program. The Visiting Fellowship Program is part of the Centre for European Studies’ mission to promote research, education and dialogue between Europe and Australia. The Visiting Fellowship Program is specifically aimed at supporting and hosting local and international scholars wishing to undertake research at the Australian National University.

Types of fellowships

  • Visiting Fellow (with grant): This Fellowship is for a period between one and six months. The grants can be used towards economy airfares and accommodation for the Visiting Fellow. The maximum contribution for travel is AUD$3,500. This financial assistance is not a salary replacement.
  • Visiting Fellow (with partial grant): This Fellowship is intended for scholars within Australia and New Zealand who wish to undertake research at the Centre. The grant is to assist with travel expenses.
  • Visiting Fellow (without grant): Academic staff from The Australian National University, other universities and institutions may apply to use the facilities at the Centre during periods of research leave (e.g. sabbatical).
  • Visitor: Short-term visitors, who wish to participate in the Centre for European Studies’ program of activities, may apply at any time to visit the Centre. Participants may apply for reimbursement of travel and/or accommodation costs.
  • Visiting Scholar: This scholarship of up to $5000 is aimed at current PhD students and early-career academics within two years of the completion of their doctoral studies. This financial assistance is for travel and accommodation.

Research Themes
Each year the Centre for European Studies and the Research School of Humanities announce broad research themes. Applications from scholars interested in these themes from any discipline are welcome. Please note that while priority is accorded to applications addressing these themes, proposals outside these themes will also be considered. The theme for 2011 will be advised soon.
