The Graduate school of Gadjah Mada University established a Doctoral Program in 1950 and Graduate Program in 1980. The era of Globalization and modernization had been influencing society to always improve their formal education to the graduate and doctoral level. It can be seen in the increasing number of graduate and doctoral students at GMU. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Programme (JSP) was established in April 1988 with funding from the Government of Japan. It is intended to provide an opportunity to fully qualified citizens of ADB developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related areas to attend academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region.
