Microsoft is excited to be offering more than a half-million dollars in scholarships for the 2006-2007 academic year. Applications must be postmarked by January 15, 2007<\/strong>. Microsoft will review all applications and select final candidates on the basis of eligibility, quality of application, displayed interest in the software industry, commitment to leadership, and financial need.<\/p>\n

All applicants will be notified of their status via email on March 15, 2007<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Basics<\/strong>
\nWe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve earmarked more than $500,000 in scholarships for the 2006-2007 academic year. If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re interested in applying, make sure you postmark your application by January 15, 2007 in order for your application to be considered. Microsoft selects final candidates based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n

Diversity at Microsoft<\/strong>
\nWe encourage student populations currently underrepresented in the field of computer science to pursue technical degrees. All candidates who meet the criteria for eligibility described below may certainly apply, while we do award a large majority of our student scholarships to women, underrepresented minorities, and the disabled. Minority applicants must belong to one of the following groups underrepresented in the software field: African-American, Hispanic, or Native American.<\/p>\n

Provisions<\/strong>
\nAs a recipient of one of our scholarships, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll enjoy the benefits for one academic year. It covers up to 100 percent of your tuition for the 2006-2007 academic year as posted by the financial aid office of your university or college. Microsoft will make payments to the designated school, and they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re not transferable to other academic institutions. You may use the funds for tuition only\u00e2\u20ac\u201dnot for other costs listed on your bursar bill, such as room and board.<\/p>\n

You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll also need to enroll and complete a salaried summer internship of 12 weeks or more at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington. (Microsoft reserves the right not to offer an internship position to the scholarship winner if an appropriate match cannot be found.)<\/p>\n

Eligibility<\/strong>
\nTo be eligible, you must be enrolled full time in a Bachelor’s degree program at a college or university in the United States, Canada, or Mexico at the time you submit the application. Plus, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll need to see that you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re making satisfactory progress toward an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline such as electrical engineering, math, or physics\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand that you demonstrate an interest in computer science. Because the scholarship is merit based, you must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 4.0, or a 4.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 5.0.<\/p>\n
